چکیده

Abstract Building-up of the modern Tian Shan range due to India-Eurasia collision induces flexural subsidence southern Junggar block. The sedimentary infill and in foreland basin recorded growth northern Shan. We analyze four seismic profiles, well logging data, trends stream morphology decipher its architecture, stratigraphic history. system can be divided into wedge-top, Lakes Aiby-Fangcao-Baijiahai foredeep Luliang forebulge backbulge depozones. profiles present active shortening structures wedge top northward thinning onlapping Neogene-Quaternary sequence foredeep. strata unconformities separating pregrowth upper part are identified depozone. This indicates that competition between local folding relief regional bedrock determines erosion versus deposition top. data GQ2 reveal wedge-top depozone evolved from distal lake sedimentation, probably a setting, braided river piedmont setting. These lines evidence migration process driven by propagation since Neogene. north-northeast dipping topography thrust controls north-northeastward flowing all rivers top, these rivers’ direction changes where tectonic landform flatten out. Growth anticlines front may have triggered meandering channel Manas lower reach. transition depozones suggests control on morphology.

The Mesozoic palaeorelief of the northern Tian Shan (China)

The Tian Shan range offers a natural laboratory to study orogenic processes. Most of the previous studies focused on either the Paleozoic evolution of the range or its Cenozoic intracontinental evolution linked with the India-Asia collision. In this study, detailed field investigations on the relationship between sedimentary cover and basement constrain the Mesozoic evolution of the northern Ti...

The evolution of a terrace sequence along the Manas River in the northern foreland basin of Tian Shan, China, as inferred from optical dating

The Tian Shan range lies in the actively deforming part of the India-Asia collision zone. The uplift rate and deformation pattern of the Tian Shan are important for understanding the dynamics of crustal deformation in the region. The river terraces in northern Tian Shan provide key records of past changes in climate and/or regional tectonics. In this study, a terrace sequence along the Manas Ri...

Detachment folding in the Southwestern Tian Shan–Tarim foreland, China: shortening estimates and rates

Geologic observations of the Chinese Tian Shan foreland reveal active, contractional deformation along the entire margin. To quantify the amount of shortening and understand the structural style, we mapped the stratigraphy and structure of four folds expressed at the western end of the foreland, north of Kashi. In this region, upper Tertiary through Quaternary sediments are conformable, but an ...

Neogene coupling between Kuqa Basin and Southern Tien Shan Orogen, Northwestern China.

Based on the sedimentary and subsiding features of Kuqa foreland basin, this paper presents the following characteristics of Neogene coupling relationship between Kuqa Basin and Southern Tien Shan Orogen, Northwestern China: (1) The Southern Tien Shan Orogen underwent Neogene uplifting of 4 km in height and the Kuqa Basin underwent Neogene subsidence of 4-6 km in depth accordingly beginning in ...

Overpressure generation and evolution in a compressional tectonic setting, the southern margin of Junggar Basin, northwestern China

Overpressure is widespread in the southern margin of the Junggar Basin, northwestern China. Pressure measurements in drillstem tests and repeated formation tests and estimates from wire-line logs indicate contrasting overpressure values between permeable sandstones and adjacent low-permeability mudrocks. In addition, excess pressure differs among anticlines with similar depth, lithologies, and ...
